The over 50s are a growing population in Britain who's sexual health needs are often over-looked. With a rising divorce rate, more singles over 50 dating than ever before and the numbers of STIs in this demographic increasing, there was an obvious demand to produce a publication to address the topic. Step up Manchester Primary Care Trust and the Valuing Older People Unit at Manchester City Council who took the ground-breaking decision to commission this award-winning guide to 'Relationships & Sexual Health for the Over 50s'.
Our design received global recognition winning a Silver Award at the 2010 Summit International Creative Awards in the best public sector brochure category. It explored topics such as self image, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, body changes and dating. Brought to life by focus groups and the photography of Richard Moran, it was launched as part of Manchester's 'Big Event and Full of Life Festival' and coincided with the Nationwide Day of Older People. As well as the award, the publication made an astonishing impact across the UK with extensive TV, radio, newspaper and online coverage. Most importantly it had a very positive impact to those who have actually read it...and some comical reviews from those who haven't and think we produced some sort of Kamasutra for the Over 50s...mentioning no names Ann Widecombe, the Daily Mail and BBC Three!
